A Quick Tuesday Tour!

Posted: August 2, 2011 in House Hunting

After a long awaited, highly hinted to house process..we moved in!

Our approval literally came down to the VERY last minute – the morning of our closing! Despite all the affirmations and positive thinking in the world, I was TERRIFIED!

Needless to say, everything worked out perfectly and here’s your first glance at the house.
I took these with my phone this morning as I stumbled down stairs to walk Koda.
So you are getting a true sneak peak, undecorated glance!

This is one of the rare occasions when I’m glad to report that I have nothing to report.

School is good. Work is good. Family is Good. Love is Good. I guess that means Life is Good.
(and don’t you EVER forget that GOD is good)

The wedding’s are over. The showers are done. The weekends are free……FOR NOW.
*This statement is only semi-true, but the difficult part is done*

One wedding in October and one shower next month, but compared to normalcy…this is a piece of cake!

I’ve made progress on the following Pre-Baby Bucket List items:

  1. Master the art of to-do lists
  2. Stop multitasking
  3. Consistently work out 3 times a week
  4. Learn and execute the word NO (a late addition – thanks LISSA)

Perhaps this progress has led to the calm before the storm, or perhaps there’s no storm coming at all….

I’ve been back and forth with making a To-Do list before 30. Seeing as how I only have 2 months to go, I’ll just give myself a pat on the back for the progress made thus far.

In the words of Celie “I’m poor, black, I might even be ugly, but dear God, I’m here.” So job well done!

I will however make a list for the next chapter in life. Prior to our trip to London, I had the baby bug…BAD. However, during our stay there, I had lots of time to reflect on life and most importantly..living! I tend to want to rush things, keep up with the Jones’, and want what I want when I want it (that was fun to type).
I’m learning and I’m growing and I’m grateful!

I’m sure my responses of “You made your choice, I’ll make mine” or “To answer your question, I’ll have one when I’m good and ready” offend people. Be warned, that’s NOT my intention. I’m a firm believer in fate, destiny, GOD, and the Tooth Fairy, so I know that none of this is in my control. However, a girl can dream, right? Going forward, I can now answer the question with.. “good question, check out this link!”

Here’s my “pre-baby bucket list:”

Personal/Health/Vain

  • Master the art of to-do lists
  • Stop multitasking (as we speak I am blogging, drinking coffee, listening to Real Housewives, working, and IM’ing)
  • Consistently work out 3 times a week
  • Buy myself one major ticket item without thinking twice about the price tag
  • Successfully keep one house plant alive
  • Learn to sew

Personal Enrichment

  • Complete my master’s program (Spring 2013)
  • Get Mr. Q enrolled in an advanced degree/certification program
  • Launch Discoveringhair.com (this dream will never die)
  • Learn a foreign language
  • Find jobs that we don’t grouch about waking up to

Travel/Adventure

  • Go on a hot air balloon ride
  • Go back to Europe
  • Visit New York City together
  • Throw a major house party!!
  • Expand our group of “couple friends”
  • Take a girls trip with my mom
  • Take a set amount of money and hit the Roulette tables in Las Vegas.
  • Attend an NBA, NFL, & MLB game

Money

  • Master couponing (nothing extreme, just the basics)
  • Figure out how to stick to our grocery/eating out budget
  • Purchase a family car (Mr. Q has declared this to be a Jeep)
  • Have a 6-month emergency fund
  • Pay off current car (13 months to go)
  • Buy a house
  • Pay off our credit card debt (half way there!)

I haven’t had too many bad experiences with baby bullies, so I can’t really point this blog at anyone directly. For the most part, my friends are pretty supportive of my plans, so a big kudos to you all!

PHEW!!! That was fun and tiring! I should probably get back to work, so I can accomplish some of these goals. I will continue to update this list as life progresses! What would be on your bucket list?

Well……. the Quarles are on their way to independence from the man (rent)!

Not FULLY a secret, but no formal announcement yet.
I like the pretend that I have THOUSANDS of followers, when in reality I have about 5 and all 5 of you already know!

Anyhoo, the “big day” is……….drum roll please!

When I can finally spill the beans, there will be lots of

and a little of this!

Until then you can find me…

I posted last week about the power of affirmations. Today is yet another follow-up!

An affirmation is a very small, simple, positive, yet POWERFUL statement which you repeat to yourself, to reinforce or change thinking patterns on a sub-conscious level.

Many of us, I’m guilty too, spend a majority of our time repeating negative words and disbelief concerning the events or situations in our life.  Words and statements work both ways…to build or destroy- it’s the way we use them that determines whether they are going to bring good or harmful results!

Examples:

– I am healthy and happy.- Wealth is pouring into my life.- My mind is calm.

– I am calm and relaxed in every situation.

– My thoughts are under my control.

– I radiate love and happiness.

– I am surrounded by love.

– I have the perfect job for me.

Instead of giving you some blog blah blah blah…the short of it all is that my friend Lissa introduced me to The Secret, positive thinking, and affirmations a few years ago.
It took me awhile to accept and embrace it all, but it has truly changed my life.
To say if you can believe it, you can achieve sounds cliche’ but I’m a believer!
This post challenges you to affirm, stay positive, and BELIEVE! It was also a slick ploy to share this hilarious picture!
Happy Thinking!

ob·sess

verb \əb-ˈses, äb-\

Definition of OBSESS

transitive verb
: to haunt or excessively preoccupy the mind of <was obsessed with the idea>
intransitive verb
: to engage in obsessive thinking : become obsessed with an idea
What’s my confession? I have an obsession. To what? Practically everything! Once my mind goes in a direction, I become “excessively preoccupied” and I’m perfectly ok with that!

Thanks to my lovely coworker and friend, Jaclyn, I found an obsessor’s dream – http://pinterest.com.

Pinterest has boards and boards and oodles and oodles of pictures and inspiration for ANYTHING you can imagine!

Don’t take my word for it.. check it out for yourself. You can thank me later!

I thought wedding planning was hard..that’s nothing compared to the house hunt! This marriage thing goes a lot farther than I Do. Today, we learned a lot  –  “follow the leader,” “compromise”, “good cop/bad cop,” and “man room vs multi-purpose room.” What a great experience! We stood in our potential first home and talked about our potential parties, our potential office and nursery and again…man room! It felt great, yet weird, doing big grown-up things.

As for the property, we’ve been stalking one community for the last 6 months so as soon as we began our house hunt we knew just where to go. We haven’t ever been inside, so today was a very surreal experience. We were both in love! Cary Park – great location, great price and all the trimmings.  Today we visited two other communities and really loved both of them, but Cary Park is definitely the front runner.
Lots of looking and number crunching and crown molding discussions to go (more on that later).

I leave you tonight a believer that AFFIRMATIONS DO COME TRUE!
